Eating Yourself Young

With all the painful and expensive cosmetic procedures out there, it’s hard to imagine an anti aging remedy that’s cheap, easy, and effective. The fact of the matter is that adding years to your life comes from within. All the cosmetic surgery in the world can’t make you healthy – it only appears that way. Eating an anti aging diet will make you feel younger and more vibrant. The confidence you get from eating healthy foods will make you look and feel years younger. Cosmetic procedures just can’t compare to the safe and natural way eating properly will slow down and prevent the aging process.

Any doctor would agree that a diet rich in phytonutrients (powerful antioxidant substances), hold the key to longevity – preventing diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, hypertension, and cancer. Phytonutrients destroy the harmful oxygen molecules that can lead to these illnesses. Carrots, broccoli, beets, red peppers, and tomatoes are rich in phytonutrients and are anti-inflammatory – also important. Colorful plant-based foods with deep orange, green and red colors are your best bet for anti-inflammatory properties.

In contrast to the foods that help inhibit the aging process, there are foods that promote the process that should be minimized or altogether avoided. Foods that actually accelerate aging are: saturated or trans fatty acids, starches, and sugars. A simple thing as trading a slice of pizza for a garden salad could add years to your life.

Although the diet can be called an anti aging diet, you don’t need the latest diet book to tell you what to eat to stay young and healthy. Simply eat a balanced diet of a variety of healthy foods. A little common sense and the addition of the following foods everyday will keep you on the path to youthfulness.

First and foremost are fruits and vegetables. Eat at least five servings a day, from a variety of produce. Since fruits and vegetables are the cornerstone to health and nutrition, you should be constantly thinking of ways to add them to every meal, everyday. It’s easy to add a handful of carrots to your soup or salad, or a cup of zucchini to your favorite pasta sauce. Eating raw veggies with dip instead of with chips could be one of the best decisions you ever make for your health.

Secondly, whole grains added to your daily routine will provide important fiber that can help lower your cholesterol levels. Diets that include lots of fiber help to keep your digestive system at peak performance and ward off colon diseases that can occur as we age. Eating at least three serving of fiber-rich whole grains a day will keep your body running as nature intended.

Lastly, try to include legumes as part of your anti aging diet. Eating these nutrient-dense snacks at least three or four times a week is quite doable. Just a handful here and there can help you reap all the healthy benefits they have to offer.

The ultimate anti aging diet can be absolutely delicious while also being easy to prepare. Although following this plan will help add many quality years to your life, this is not just for those of us who can hear the clock ticking. Children and young adults alike will benefit from a diet rich in healthy, nutritious foods. It’s never too late, or too early, to eat your way to excellent health.
