Maintaining A Healthy Skin In Summer

Summer is usually time for the sun and the beach. However, your skin can suffer if you do not take extra care of it during this time. Plan out your summer day, but keep these suggestions in mind to protect your skin.

Always apply sunscreen before you go out. Your sunscreen should be broad-spectrum, which means it blocks the UVA and UVB rays from the sun. The most effective sunblock ingredients are zinc, titanium dioxide, avobenzone and mexoryl. Your sunscreen should have one or a combination of these ingredients for effective coverage. On days when you perspire a lot, reapply your sunscreen frequently to maintain protection. Remember, just because you are wearing sunscreen does not mean that you can stay out in the sun for a prolonged period of time. You should still try to avoid the sun when the rays are the strongest, usually between 10am and 2pm.

Dead skin can accumulate quickly during the summer as dead skin cells mix with the natural oils on your face. This can lead to clogged pores. Make a point to exfoliate at least once a week with a mild exfoliator. Avoid strong or abrasive products if you have sensitive skin because that can do more harm to your skin than good.

Do not forget to project your lips when you go out in the sun. Apply a lip balm with an SPF of 15 or higher. Reapply often because this protection wears off quickly as you eat, drink and talk.

Strengthen and nourish your skin from within. Eat more fruits and vegetables which are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants. When your skin is nourished from within, it will emit a healthy glow. Avoid junk food which lacks that nutrients that you need.

If you want a tan but do not want to stay out in the sun, use a self-tanning lotion. Apply this evenly, all over your body. Be careful not to get this on your clothes because it can stain.

Cleanse your face two times a day with a mild cleanser. This removes make-up and dirt that have accumulated on your face. After cleansing, use a cotton ball to apply a toner to your face. The toner removes all remaining traces of dirt and prepares your skin for moisturizing.

Remember to keep drinking water throughout the day. On a hot summer day, you can easily get dehydrated before you even realize it. Always take water with you wherever you go. Your skin cells are made mostly of water, so you need to keep them hydrated to keep your skin looking fresh.

Your eyes also need protection from the sun. Get a pair with UV coated lenses for maximum protection.

When you take a shower, avoid hot water. Use tepid or cool water. Hot water can dry out your skin.

You can have fun in the sun during summer, but you have to be mindful of the sun’s effects on unprotected skin. If you plan to spend many days at the beach, keep in mind the tips in this article, and play safely in the sun.
