Finding Quality Natural Health Care

Finding Quality Natural Health Care

“Where should I go?” or “What are my choices?” These two questions and more may come up when trying to decide which healthcare road to take. There are conflicting reports on modern day medical practices that are out to make big money with the insurance companies and reports that claim that practitioners in the natural health care industries are nothing but a bunch of witchdoctors. Who can you trust? Education is the key.

Educate yourself about the different types of natural health, the pros and cons to each. Once you have found a form of natural healthcare that may interest you research the different practitioners in your area. It is best to interview them and find out their history, just like they ask questions regarding your medical history as a patient. Another approach may be to ask your current modern medical physician. Complete communication may be the best avenue to take so you can have a positive experience. This will give you the best level of care. Asking others about their experiences may help too, but keep in mind opinion vs. fact. If someone had a bad experience, it is best to hear the whole story and find the truths for yourself.

What Does It All Mean?

What does natural health care mean? Isn’t all healthcare natural? Natural healthcare is also known as alternative healthcare and encompasses all forms of healing that does not fit the mainstream of modern medicine. This form of healing may include a combination of physical, mental, and social well-being. There are different forms of natural healing and each one focuses on a different aspect of the body or mind.

Who Can Benefit?

Who would or should discover the road of natural healthcare? Anyone who is open minded enough to discover the possibilities of wellness through the purest forms rather than to try and take a pill for every ache and pain. It is like going on a mystery hunt and finding out the reasons for possible pains rather then just accepting them and curing them. Understanding their origin may be enough for cure or stopping them before they continue or get triggered will be a healthier approach.

One school of thought is that your body compensates pain and can only do so before the pain is revealed elsewhere in your body. For example, a patient is seen by a mainstream doctor for hip pain. This physician may perform a battery of tests or send you to a specialist who will try to cure the affliction at face value. An Osteopathic practitioner may dwell into history a little more and look at the musculoskeletal system as a whole and discover the patient’s body has become out of alignment. A little more historical digging and the Osteopathic practitioner has discovered the patient has recently had natural childbirth and the pushing during labor has strained the hip joint. A massage therapist (another form of alternative medicine) is called to the rescue and with some neck and back manipulation, the hip falls back into place and the patient feels better. There was no need for prescriptions or expensive tests.

Where Does One Go?

Where to start? The internet offers a variety of websites that have information on each type of alternative natural health. Getting a general overview of each type and finding out which area of the body it focuses on may be a good place. Once you determine the area of focus then you can decide if it is an area that you want to cover and then follow up with a deeper search on that particular type of alternative natural health care. There are probably parishioners in your general area that may practice such medicine where you can contact and meet with them to answer all your questions. Your local hospital offers different information classes on certain types of natural health featured that would work in conjunction with mainstream health.

For example, the obstetrician in your area may work with professional Doulas. A Doula is a professionally trained coach that helps with the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy. This person would educate the birth mother and partner in all the aspects of pregnancy, birthing, and post partum needs of baby and mother. This person may show massage techniques that can be used for relaxation and ease the birthing process. This trained person would work with your physician to offer the best possible care.

Education is truly key in this type of situation. It is always best to know all avenues and ask all the questions that may come to mind. Familiarize yourself with the natural healthcare option and then decide if it is right for you and/or your family.
