Saline Implants For Breast Augmentation

Are you seriously considering getting breast implants? Have you been doing the research that is required, so that you’ll know which implants are right for your body type and current health status? If you’re going to be making an appointment with a plastic surgeon soon, you should definitely ask about saline implants, and there are lots of things you should know about these implants before your visit.
Saline implants are used most often when it comes to breast surgeries in the U.S., and the implants are available in a number of shell surfaces. You can choose from smooth or textured implants, but most saline implants are single lumen, and they are filled to the desired size at the time that you have your surgery. You may also want to choose from pre-filled implants, which are filled by the manufacturer and shipped to the doctor’s office a few days or weeks before your surgery, so that you can approve the size. The pre-filled implants are not approved by the FDA, so it is usually best to go with single lumen saline implants so that you can customize the breast implants with your doctor.
Each of the saline implants that you’ll see in your doctor’s office will have a strong shell that will take the shape of a natural breast, and if the implant ruptures, the body will absorb the saline, similar to if you were drinking a glass of water. The saline should be sterile, and should conform to the Normal Physiological Saline, which is injection grade.
Implant sizes range in size from 120cc to 850cc, so patients can request to receive implants that are as small as an A or B cup, or as large as a DD or DDD in some cases. If you want to get implants that are larger than 850cc, this will require ordering custom saline implants, and this could take a while. At present, the only implants that are approved for use in the U.S. are those from Inamed and Mentor Corp.
When you visit your doctor to talk about saline implants, you should make sure that you inform your surgeon that you’ve done your research and want to see some examples of how the implants will look. You should take a look at pictures of women with similar body types, so that you can determine which breast implants would look best on your body. It is also a good idea to check the certification of the surgeon that you are consulting with to ensure that you will be in the hands of a professional. Be sure to talk to other medical employees in the office in order to get first-hand information on procedures, and to get a feel for how well you’ll be taken care of.
